Framed photographs are for enjoying, not tinkering. Maintenance involves only dusting the frames when you feel it’s needed and occasionally cleaning the front of the glass with glass cleaner and an absorbent cloth or paper towel. In humid air, when air conditioning is not used, frame glass may take on a filmy or cloudy look and require more frequent cleaning to appreciate the full tonal range of the photograph. Removing prints from their frames is not advised unless it’s done by an experienced framer.Prints I made in my early days as a photographer have been hanging in rooms with indirect sunlight during the intervening years and show no signs of image or materials deterioration. Of course, prints processed by Ansel Adams are much older and still holding up because of the archival processing and presentation practices he devised and that I follow.
